Exodus

Exo 33:2  And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
Exo 33:3  Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

God initially says He will not travel with the people.  He is so holy, and they are so not holy, it would be dangerous for them.  God is perfect.  He has perfect justice.  And to be around Him, if not in His perfect mercy, makes death imminent.  Perfect justice means we get what we deserve, and the wages of our sin is death.  All the more reason to be thankful for Jesus!
