Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
Going back to the entry on Matthew 2, God has always known He would be opposed. The rulers would set themselves against Him, the ultimate ruler. He’s a threat to their rule. They can’t be absolutely in charge if He is. And if one desires absolute power, you can’t be in a position to share it or be subject to someone else’s.
