1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
Strangely, this does not say when we feel like it. It does not say when we are happy. It does not say when we’ve had a good day at work or a nice time with the family or an entertaining time out with friends. It says evermore, which means all the time.
How are we going to do that when life does have times, long times occasionally, that are not very happy? When our eyes are on eternity, we can still find reason to rejoice. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Rom 8:18)
We can be sad about what is going on here, but we can always rejoice about Heaven.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
If we’re always rejoicing about Heaven and Jesus, then we are praying without ceasing. If we constantly offer our work to God and try to make our work be in His will, then we are praying without ceasing.
Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Php 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Php 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the verse after this: 1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
